RTW: Favorite Literary Moment

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival’ where YA Highway’s contributors post a weekly writing or reading related question and answer it on our own blogs.  You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody’s unique take on the topic.

This weeks topic:
A long-awaited kiss, a surprising ending, a character’s sudden decision…these are the moments that make us smile, gasp, and LOVE a book for the rest of our lives.  What is your favorite literary moment?

As per usual another hard if not impossible question to answer this week.  So like most everyone else I’ll state the obvious it’s so hard to pick one, it’s like picking between kids (I don’t have any but I hear it’s hard).  So my simple answer is going to be in Shadow Kiss, book 3 in the Vampire Academy series when Rose and Dimitri get together and then what happens next.  I knew the first part had to happen at some point, the tension was just…yeah it had to happen or I would have screamed.  But what happened next…I may have thrown my book across the room.  I was just that upset and shocked.

So now you know mine.  And I say again, it was the first on that popped into my head when I checked out my book shelves but if I look again I see another book or series and think of those moments so…yes we’ll stick with what I have.  What is your favorite moment?

  1. So, it's not what you expected, but what you didn't expect--of all the things that could have happened next, it's the thing you didn't anticipate. As long as that "thing" is not unreasonable (within the world of the novel), yes, I'll agree it's great when a writer can do that.

    1. Yep pretty much. I loved the book but after my happy moment I had been waiting for I was all happy thoughts and then BAM! Hit me with something that shattered my happy moment.

  2. That's the worst when that happens. I haven't read these books, but if I do, I'll be prepared now. I could probably change my mind a million times on the scene I chose for my RTW :D

    1. LOL if you're anything like me you'll still be shocked. Even when I re-read them I was all prepared but then sigh...got hit again.

  3. Agh! The love-hate that is an unexpected twist! I haven't read this series, but everyone I meet who has LOVES it, so I think I'll have to give it a read.

    1. Oh they are great. I adore Rose. She's a great strong female character. She has issues which I love, but she is always fighting for what she deeply believes in.

  4. I just finished the first book in that series last night. I wasn't in love with the story at all, but then the end happened and now I want to know what's next!

I am not sure about my favorite literary moment, but I know my least favorite. Which also happens to be my husband's least favorite. ;) I had just watched Twilight in the theater and finally let my MIL send me her Twilight book series that she'd been bugging me to read for a while. I read Twilight, then started New Moon and it hit me like dark case of depression. Ah, a past high school romance and the heart twisting of its end helped me connect to Bella and I just moped around the house in a sad slump. My husband got so tired of it, he told me to stay in our room until the book was finished. He took care of the kids and stuff and I cried my way through the book until the happy ending. :) We still joke about that.

    1. Oh yeah books grab hold of you in the end and make you think...I NEED more.
That's very powerful. I will say that I heart the Twilight books. I do love when a book can make you feel a real reaction, pain, anger, excitement.

  5. I have not read this series yet - I need to now :D The anticipation of a scene and then a possible unforeseen blow-up sounds very dramatic...

    1. Oh yes you should. If only for selfish reasons so I can talk about it with one more person :) but I did really enjoy them and think many others do too!

  6. That's not my sort of book, but I have been hearing good things about the Vampire Academy series (my friends are OBSESSED with it) so I might have to pick one up and try it...

Btw, I've tagged you in the lucky seven meme!
