Hello
everyone! Top Ten Tuesday is just how it
sounds, a topic is picked and we put our Top Ten for that in a post and share
and check out everyone’s answers. Top
Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
But first I want to announce the winner of the giveaway winner that ended last night for a signed copy of The Last Star by Rick Yancey and that winner is.....Lara F. Congrats!
The top ten(ish) today is: Reasons I love book events!
Meeting authors- Being able to hear them talk
about their work and ask questions about the book/character/anything is
amazing!
The atmosphere- there is just this giddy feeling
when you go to events that you can't get elsewhere.
Making friends!
I've made some great friends at events because it's so easy to talk to
strangers because….well you're all there for the same reason you LOVE books!
Group reads / discussions- I've been finding more
and more of these and they started because I meet some people at book events.
Travel- I have so much fun going to different
events! I only wish I had more money to
go to all the events!
Experience- I'm kind of a shy person in life but
at book events I'm normally a different person, I don't know if it's being
surrounded by fellow book nerds or just excitement but since I started going to
them I've found it has helped me break out of my shell in everyday life as
well.
New book recommendations- because you always get
more at an event!
Inspiration- I'm an aspiring author myself and as
I go to these events they are full of encouragement!
Passion-I always love reading but when I go to
events it sometimes feels like I have even more passion reading the books from
them because I can remember!
Tell me what you think of my list in the
comments below. Which would you
recommend so I know which ones to get first?
Also please link back to your Top Ten as well so I can check out your
list and see what I missed!
Not many book events in my area but hopefully someday I will be able to attend one. Our local library has things from time to time, but nothing major since I pretty much live in the middle of nowhere!
ReplyDeleteI feel you! The ones I go to are normally about 4 hours away at this one indie book store, pretty much the only read bookstore I ever go to since all I have near me is a BAM and lets be honest amazon delievers and is cheaper lol. But yes some of the others I've went up to 8 hours away (for a week long one) and one day hope to go further to BEA!
DeleteWe don't get a lot of bookish events where I live, but the ones that I have gone to have been totally amazing! I love them for all of the reasons that you list here, especially just feeling like you're part of a community when you're there!
ReplyDeletehere's my TTT!
I know it's so much fun! I wish they had more closer to me, because while I'm cool making the 4 hr drive one way for an event (usually it's more and have dinner with a friend first type deal or sometimes I crash with them for the night) but yeah I could afford to do more if they were a bit closer!
DeleteI only went to one big book even to TX, I flew from WV to see my friends in TX and we all went to this huge book signing , and authors panels and all that stuff, it was so much fun! I loved it. I wish they would have events like that in WV.

Oh was it RT? I know RT is supposed to be in Texas I think and I've thought about seeing if I could go. I hear you I live on the FL/GA line and the closest thing is usually Atlanta!
DeleteOh yes, great pick for this weeks prompt! Love that this prompt means nearly all our posts are about something different. I LOVE book events, they are so much fun. I love the big events and the small little signings. I wish I lived in the US as they have some of the most amazing bookish events. I love meeting authors and getting my books signed. I love meeting new people there, as we all have a love of books in common. Great pick for this week! You can check my TTT post out here.
ReplyDeleteI know the diverse topics on one basic topic is great! I debated between this and discussing a couple of series but this one out! Awe well maybe if you're every in the US visiting you can manage to swing in to a signing or two as well :)
DeleteGreat list! The UK doesn't have that many book events but we do have YALC which I'm going to in the summer, it was so much fun last year and I can't wait to go again this year!

That sounds like so much fun! I hope you have a blast! I'm hoping to go to YALLfest again this year I missed last year.
DeleteGreat points - I wish I could go to more bookish events in person... if only there were more that were closer.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT.
I know distance seems to be the greatest obstacle! When will teleporting be a real thing and save everyone the trouble.
DeleteI would love to attend a big book event, I just need money and the courage to actually get out of the house (once I do that I'm usually ok)
