Goal Keeper: A Pearson Players Novel

Hello happy readers!  It is thankfully the weekend but it is also the start of June.  Where did have of 2018 go?  Anywho today is the first day in weeks where it hasn't been raining here so I decided to be a good adult and mow….mind you mowing is not something I have done but once before and I'm horrible at it so very interesting.  Still I did it and now I'm hiding inside with the AC to work on my blog and some reading.  Today I have a YA author I have really enjoyed is dipping her toes into the NA pool, using the name Sarah Nego, and I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of this new title Goal Keeper: A Pearson Players Novel in exchange for an honest review.  This title came out on 5/21, I snagged it just after as I was super behind in all things but I was ready to dive right in and it's out so you don't have to wait to read it.  And you should read because I loved it!

Rating:  5 Stars

Goal Keeper is a hilarious stand alone college romance that combines romance, big dreams, and finding ones path in the world.  Luci Ryder is a freshman with her days planned perfectly between school and soccer.  No time for anything else if she wants to keep her scholarships and stay on track.  Newly single junior, Ryan VanKamp, is just happy to be free of his crazy rich snobby ex who also happens to be a senior and captain of the girls soccer team.  Neither are looking for romance but despite the hurdles there is something there and it might be worth the risk.

Luci is easy to love.  She has her goals and lists and is determined to stick to them.  I make lists all the times and try to plan out my days to make them more productive and such but most of the time that never happens and I'm lucky to get even half the stuff done.  Luci has a much higher stakes than some with balancing two different scholarships needed to get her degree and follow her life dream.  When the captain makes  a rule forbidding partying and dating with the guys team she isn't too upset about it for herself though it clearly hurts everyone else.  Still Vanessa is not one you want to mess with or she will make your life miserable.  Ryan is happy to be free of Vanessa and her demands on him to fill her life goals in a life he didn't want rubbing elbows with all the big wigs and pushing his passions aside.  His only regret aside from taking so long to do it…that it hurt the guys on his team with her new rule.

When Ryan meets Luci he is fascinated by her.  Luci is attracted to this sexy soccer player as well but he doesn't fit in her plan and it would not only break the rule but is pretty much the worst way to break it.  Still as they get to know one another in a shared class and unplanned encounters things start to smolder.  The story is a real slow yet steady burn that is beautifully written.  You get to see things from both sides as they come to terms with what they want out of life and each other and what they are willing to risk.  I felt like I was right there with them as I anxiously awaited each moment hoping things would work out.  This story is full of sexy slow burn that really ignites on the page with these down to earth and lovable characters.  The stakes felt real.  The story felt real.  It was steamy at times but each one was well deserved and so captivating.  I loved this story and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a steamy fun read.

Review

I was contacted by the author and asked if I would be interested in receiving a copy for an honest review and after looking it over I was excited to give it a go.  It's a story of two messed up people finding themselves and in the Christmas holiday no less.  As it's almost the end of the year, yes I can't believe it's Almost Christmas again where did the year go? I was excited to read something Christmas-y.

Rating: 4 Stars

I really liked this story.  I liked that while both dealing with loss and pain Jeseca and David have taken different routes in dealing with it.  David has secluded himself away while Jeseca puts herself in the thick of it despite her fears and inner demons.  Then fate brings them together (and Brody) stuck alone in a storm and despite their differences they have a clear and instant connection.  There is an instant physical attraction for sure, despite his scars Jeseca sees past them, but they both recognize someone in the other; pain and loss.  It can bond people together, to know that someone else understands even a portion of your pain can be an intoxicating thing.  David is a bit more stubborn and hard to thaw out and I liked that Jeseca seemed to understand that and not take it personally but proceeded forward with a bit of caution.
When you are stuck with a total stranger for any period of time you are bound to get to know one another and I liked their slow discovery.  How they let themselves open up and feel.  It isn't always easy after loss to talk about it, not when you've avoided it for so long but learning their stories and watching as their opposite personalities grew together was beautiful.  I read this in mostly one sitting.  I enjoyed the characters and their unique and adorable interactions that had me rooting for them to get together.  Dual POV's gave you a deeper feel of both characters and what was driving them and what they wanted.  And did we ever want them together because the sexual tension was steamy as all get out, that man….I wouldn't mind wrecking near his place, just saying!

The story is an intense, sad, hopeful, and sexy read all rolled into one.  And that's all I'll say on it, just enjoy the journey.

Excerpt
David’s enchanting voice swelled the darkness, surrounding Jeseca, gripping onto her senses with a thousand beckoning fingers. They held her captive—and she readily surrendered her freedom. “We’re like day and night. Summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet something about you whispers my name and echoes inside me …” His mouth found her pulse point. Damp, hot lips nibbled on her skin and sent her wits reeling. “You should have never come in here. It was a mistake.” “Then tell me to leave and I’ll go,” she replied through a breathy whisper. Her voice sounded thick with desire, hoarse … she hardly recognized it as her own. “And I don’t believe we’re complete opposites,” she said, her words husky and guttural. “I think the real you is hiding.” Impenetrable silence took hold. Only the howling wind and David’s heavy breathing breached the quiet. “Should I leave?” More silence. “No. I need you … I need you to stay with me.” The words emerged from the darkness and wrapped around Jeseca’s heart with the force of a lasso. He plunged a hand beneath the bathrobe, which had fallen halfway open, and a jarring whoosh of air slammed against her skin. His tongue swirled along her collarbone, branding her flesh with slick, wet shapes. Her heart hammered, and she clutched at the bedsheet as his mouth ventured lower … lower … skirting across the V-line of her plush pajama top. Then his fingers were working the buttons, quickly undoing them and sweeping the soft material aside. Cold air tightened her naked breasts, causing gooseflesh to prickle her skin. “Stop me if I’m going too fast,” he breathed against her. Yes, she should stop him. This was wrong. Totally wrong. Instead, all rational thought melted away and she found herself arching against his mouth and tongue. She wanted more—not less. And she wanted him to go faster—not slower …

Temptation by Casey L. Bond

Hello everyone!  So funny enough I posted my review of Sin by Casey L. Bond about a month ago here.  I really liked it and was sad that was all there was to the story and such a quick read.  Then I saw that there was a companion sequel following Brooklyn, called Temptation.  It was perfect timing.  Also it came out today!

Rating: 5 Stars

Temptation again follows Sin, but could be read as a stand alone in my opinion, but why would you when they're both awesome and super fast fun reads.  Anywho focusing on Brooklyn or favorite burlesque dancer.  She's a good person, even if that one tiny misdemeanor on her record says otherwise.  Still it sucks if all the cops see is that incident and not the whole currently being stalked aspect.  Creepy stalker has been leaving presents at work and even in her home, escalating for sure.  Never a good sign as anyone who has watched a single episode of any crime show can tell you.  So with her best friend Sin they skip town to try and shake the stalker.  This leads Brooklyn into the small town of Swift Rapids, VA.  In town Brooklyn finds sexy small town cop Colt Stone is everywhere and constantly bumping into her.  Stalker on her tail or no, it has been a while and Colt is meant to serve and protect.  Laying low and staying out of sight might not be so bad in this small town.

Just like Sin this Temptation is a super-fast fun read.  I finished it in one sitting and only a few hours.  It starts off with a bang.  Right in there with this stalker being all creeptastic and making your skin crawl.  I already loved Brook from Sin but in this we get to know even more about her and what it is that makes her tick.  It made me love her all the more.  I also liked that we got more of her and Sin’s friendship and back and forth.  It feels so natural and reminds me of conversations I’d have with my own friends.  They are there for each other no matter what and I like that loyalty shining through.

Still as Sin went to a big city to escape into the sea of people, Brook is going the opposite route, small town hiding.  Swift Rapids, VA is a huge change for her but pleasant.  A deep rest from a normally chaotic life and just in time for her to contemplate her future.  Oh and the handsome cop who keeps showing up around her doesn’t hurt either.  He may uphold the law but he makes a girl want to break it just to get arrested by him.  Just saying, Colt is totally book boyfriend material.  And getting to see some chapters from his perspective just made him all the more enjoyable.  I really liked his conversations with Willy, okay I liked Willy in all his parts but his banter with Colt….the manther part just about had me in tears I was laughing so hard.

I can’t really say much more because again this is a fast read and part of the fun is experiencing it.  I really enjoyed the story and the tension playing throughout the book.  I highly recommend it to anyone. That’s all for today, share your thoughts and feels in the comments below.
