Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid #1)

Hello happy readers! So one series I am devouring and plan to finish this year if not this month is the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead.  She is an auto-buy author for me and I have loved all of her work thus far so it was high time I read or rather listen to these books.  These books have caught me by surprise and really tugged on my feels so here are my thoughts on the start Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid #1).

Rating:  4.5 Stars

So we all know Richelle Mead is an auto-buy author for me because I LOVED Vampire Academy series, Rose & Dimitri forever, and I enjoyed the spin-off Bloodlines.  For her adult books I enjoyed the Dark Swan series and finally got all of these on my shelf at a good price waiting for me to dive into them.  My hold up I think was more that when I first got them I had just finished a Lost Girl marathon and didn’t want to read them on top of that.  Lost Girl is focused on a succubus if you didn’t know.  So then at the start of 2017 I decided it was time to start this series and I had the audiobook for Succubus Blues and figured it was a great time to start.  It had also been long enough since I heard about these books the only thing I knew about the book/series was that it focused on Georgina Kincaid a succubus.  That’s it.

Going in blind was all kinds of fun I admit.  We follow Georgina, a succubus who isn’t in love with the job.  She can have anything or any man she wants but the problem is the men usually end up paying for it with their soul.  Kind of puts a damper on real romance.  Her day job is at a local bookstore which feeds her love of books and coffee, so from the start I loved her.  Her night job is more about feeding her needs and working for the demon underground.  When her day job puts her in close proximity to her favorite author, Seth Mortensen, who happens to be sexy as hell things get interesting.

I really enjoyed the story.  I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed how quick it seemed to go by.  I think it took only a couple nights listening for a bit before bed and I was finished.  I know it’s the start of 2018 and I’m talking about a book I listened to at the start of the previous year, why the delay.  Well the downside is that I enjoyed listening to the story so much and hearing Georgina’s quippy one-liners and such that I think I want to listen to the rest of the series.  So it took the year to convince myself I just had to splurge on them, waiting for a sale was taking too long.  I thought it had been too long to post but I realized as I started book two that I was instantly back into this world and I did a quick skim of book one  I plan to finish this series in 2018.  I am really enjoying this dynamic between Georgina and Seth and the balance between who she is as a person vs. what she has to do to stay alive. The balance between being a good person when your job is to corrupt men’s souls to hell.  But the characters were all fun to read and it was a fresh take that was quick and entertaining.  There is action, humor, sexy times (duh she’s a succubus), character development, and a real story at play.  I am really enjoying this series by Mead, though I’m not surprised as she is an auto-buy author for me.  I’ll share my thoughts on this series as I go.

                Until next time…

  1. I never read her adult books but I've always wanted to read them, especially this one. Hopefully this will be the year I finally do it. :P
