~Waiting on Wednesday~ Daughter of the Siren Queen (Daughter of the Pirate King #2)

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

Daughter of the Siren Queen (Daughter of the Pirate King #2) by Tricia Levenseller
Out:  2/27

From Goodreads:
The capable, confident, and occasionally ruthless heroine of Daughter of the Pirate King is back in this action-packed sequel that promises rousing high seas adventures and the perfect dash of magic.

Alosa’s mission is finally complete.  Not only has she recovered all three pieces of the map to a legendary hidden treasure, but the pirates who originally took her captive are now prisoners on her ship.  Still unfairly attractive and unexpectedly loyal, first mate Riden is a constant distraction, but now he’s under her orders.  And she takes great comfort in knowing that the villainous Vordan will soon be facing her father’s justice.

When Vordan exposes a secret her father has kept for years, Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race with the feared Pirate King.  Despite the danger, Alosa knows they will recover the treasure first…after all, she is the daughter of the Siren Queen.

In Daughter of the Siren Queen, Tricia Levenseller brings together the perfect mix of thrilling action, tense battle scenes, and a heart-pounding romance.

Why I’m Waiting:
I LOVED the first book (review).  One of my favorite reads this year by far.  I am so ready to see what more comes out of this author and this series as I see such potential.

~Waiting on Wednesday~ The Raven King

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
Out:  4/26
Book 4 (final)

From Goodreads:
The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.

All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love’s death.  She doesn’t believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in a strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

In a starred review for Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Kirkus Reviews declared:  “Expect this truly one-of-a-kind series to come to a thundering close.”

Why I’m Waiting:
Okay so I’m behind on this series.  I LOVE her writing style and the beauty of it all and the story of the first book was intriguing for sure.  When book two came out I was in between jobs and didn’t have the money to spend on it right away.  Once I got settled again and I was able to purchase it I decided to wait until closer to book threes release so I could read them together.  Then I found it was a four book series not a trilogy and given I had other books to read and really wanted to re-read the first book as well I decided to wait and read them with a friend of mine and with our Goodreads group, Perpetual YA Bookworms, the month of the release and read all four books back to back!  It seems like the best idea then there is no waiting and everything will be super fresh between books!  Plus come on these covers are awesome!  I’m also still waiting to get the tarot cards Maggie made with the series, so beautiful!

~Waiting on Wednesday~ Glass Sword

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
Out:  2/9
Book 2

From Goodreads:
Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling:  she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive kind, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion?  Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

Why I’m Waiting:
I read the first book Red Queen (review) and enjoyed it.  I did really enjoy it and even gave it 5 stars but I do think for some it can be over hyped.  I read it rather soon after release only knowing a bit of the hype and it was what I expected and had a twist thrown in I wasn’t expecting so props for that.  I think it was a good first book and really set up for what I hope will be a wonderful series and after the ending I’m ready to see what happens next!

~Waiting on Wednesday~ These Vicious Masks

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas
Out:  2/9

From Goodreads:
Jane Austen meets X-Men in this gripping and adventure-filled paranormal romance set in Victorian London.

England, 1882.  Evelyn is bored with society and its expectations.  So when her beloved sister, Rose, mysteriously vanishes, she ignores her parents and travels to London to find her, accompanied by the dashing Mr. Kent.  But they’re not the only ones looking for Rose.  The reclusive, young gentleman Sebastian Braddock is also searching for her, claiming that both sisters have special healing powers.  Evelyn is convinced that Sebastian must be mad, until she discovers that his strange tales of extraordinary people are true—and that her sister is in graver danger than she feared.

Why I’m Waiting:
I was sold on X-Men adventure-filled paranormal romance in Victorian London.  Now I’m not normally one for time/historical books in general (probably why I’ve never read Jane Austen) but I do love the paranormal aspect.  Also it makes me think of the Infernal Devices series so win/win there.  It sounds like a mystery, discovering powers and secrets and all but also finding her sister.  I look forward to it.  I also  received an ARC of this and plan to get to it this week all things permitting!  Plus the cover is awesome!  I love masquerade masks!

~Waiting on Wednesday~ The Rose and the Dagger

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh
Out:  5/3

From Goodreads:

I am surrounded on all sides by a desert.  A guest, in a prison of sand and sun.  My family is here.  And I do not know whom I can trust.

In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad has been torn from the love of her husband Khalid, the Caliph of Khorasan.  She once believed him a monster, but his secrets revealed a man tormented by guilt and a powerful curse—one that might keep them apart forever.  Reunited with her family, who have taken refuge with enemies of Khalid, and Tariq, her childhood sweetheart, she should be happy.  But Tariq now commands forces set on destroying Khalid’s empire.  Shahrzad is almost a prisoner caught between loyalties to people she loves.  But she refuses to be a pawn and devises a plan.

While her father, Jahandar, continues to play with magical forces he doesn’t yet understand Shahrzad tried to uncover powers that may lie dormant within her.  With the help of a tattered old carpet and a tempestuous but sage young man, Shahrzad will attempt to break the curse and reunite with her one true love.

Why I’m Waiting:
I just finished The Wrath and the Dawn and I was completely blown away.  So much so that as I didn’t finish it before the end of the trip I couldn’t wait to listen in the car for the one chapter a day I got, if that, seriously I like 2.5 miles from work.  I pulled the disk out at the start of a new track and put it in the computer, I needed to finish it!  I did that just this weekend and wow did it amaze me.  Now I find that the other half of the duology is out in May not March like I first thought!  SO LONG! I’ve been lucky enough to be able to chat with my good friend Bogdana The Booknerd since she read it a while back and now I understand her suffering.  Basically this one left you hanging at the end with so much that you need the other half.  I’m planning to finish my review today and post it tomorrow which I’ll link here once it’s up.

~Waiting on Wednesday~ Elementals: The Prophecy of Shadows

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

Out:  1/26

From Goodreads:
Filled with magic, thrilling adventure, and sweet romance, Elementals is the first in a new series that fans of Percy Jackson and The Secret Circle will love!

When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches.  Even more surprisingly…she’s apparently a witch herself.  Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers—and, to her dismay, by Blake—the school’s notorious bad-boy.

Girls who got close to Blake wind up hurt.  His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic.  But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.

When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers.  But the comet has another effect—it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries.  After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town…and possibly the world.

Why I’m Waiting:
So I haven’t read the Percy Jackson books just yet but I’m excited to do so as I love me some Greek mythology.  I also really enjoyed the original Secret Circle books, haven’t continued with the recent additions thus far.  So combining the things sounds like it could be interesting.  I’m curious.  I was recently gifted an ARC of this title and plan to start it this weekend if all goes well so looks like I won’t have to wait long!

~Waiting on Wednesday~ The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine
Out:  2/23

From Goodreads:
Lorelai Diederich, crown princess and fugitive at large, has one mission:  kill the wicked queen who took both the Ravenspire throne and the life of her father.  To do that, Lorelai needs to use the one weapon she and Queen Irina have in common—magic.  She'll have to be stronger, faster, and more powerful than Irina, the most dangerous sorceress Ravenspire has ever seen.

In the neighboring kingdom of Eldr, when Prince Kol's father and older brother are killed by an invading army of magic-wielding ogres, the second-born prince is suddenly giving the responsibility of saving his kingdom.  To do that, Kol needs magic—and the only way to get it is to make a deal with the queen of Ravenspire, promise to become her personal huntsman…and bring her Lorelai's heart.

But Lorelai is nothing like Kol expected—beautiful, fierce, and unstoppable—and despite dark magic, Lorelai is drawn in by the passionate and troubled king.  Fighting to stay one step ahead of the dragon huntsman—who she likes far more than she should—Lorelai does everything in her power to ruin the wicked queen.  But Irina isn't going down without a fight, and her final move may cost the princess the one thing she still has left to lose.

Why I’m Waiting:

I am finding I just adore fairy tale retellings and I fell in love with the Defiance trilogy so it stands to reason I'd want to check out her other work.  Also the cover is rather stunning, dark and devious no doubt.  I had the chance to meet C.J. Redwine back in June and she was so much fun to talk to and we chatted for a good bit about her books as much as I could anyways as I hadn't finished the series and she had some amazing things to say in one of the panels she was on about world building.

~Waiting on Wednesday~ Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.  Basically books that are not yet out that we are dying to get our hands on.  This week’s pick is:

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
Out:  3/8

From Goodreads:
Los Angeles.  It's been five years since the events of the Mortal Instruments when Nephilim stood poised on the brink of oblivion and Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs lost her parents.  After the blood and violence she witnessed as a child, Emma has dedicated her life to discovering exactly what it was that killed her parents and getting her revenge.

Raised in the Los Angeles Institute with the Blackthorn family, Emma is paired as a parabatai with her best friend, Julian Blackthorn.  A series of murders in the city catch her attention—they seem to have the same characteristics as the deaths of her parents.  Could the murderer be the same person?  And her attention isn't the only one caught:  someone has been murdering Downworlders as well.  The Fair Folk make a deal with the Institute:  if the Blackthorns and Emma will investigate the killings, they'll return Mark Blackthorn to his home.  The catch:  they have only two weeks to find the killers.  Otherwise it's open war between faeries and Nephilim.

The Shadowhunters of the Institute must race against time to catch the killers, even as they begin to suspect the involvement of those closest to them.  At the same time, Emma is falling in love with the one person in the world she's absolutely forbidden by Shadowhunter Law to love.  Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica.

Why I’m Waiting:

I have just adored all things Shadowhunter thus far and getting to meet Emma in City of Heavenly Fire just made me want to know more about her all the more.  I am so excited to continue in the world!
