Top Ten Tuesday: Things that make me pick a book

Hello everyone!  Top Ten Tuesday is just how it sounds, a topic is picked and we put our Top Ten for that in a post and share and check out everyone’s answers.  Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  Also don't forget to swing by and enter my giveaway for a SIGNED copy of A Crown of Wishes here

The top ten today is: Things that make me want to read a book instantly

Cover- Yes I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and all that but lets be honest we all do.  No I love plenty of books that suffer from an ugly cover and have had plenty of pretty covers not be as good as I hoped but a gorgeous cover is a sure way to get me to…

Summary- I want something that catches my attention and makes me want to start reading ASAP to know more.

Author- Some books I don’t have to know a cover or a title, like Untitled Chaol book but I know I will have it the day it comes out because Sarah J. Maas is an auto-buy author for me.

Buzz/Hype- Have I heard of this book and if so was what I heard good?  Some books can be overhyped that is true but it’s great when you can dive into a book everyone is talking about and have people to discuss it with versus some other books not as many people have read yet so you have to wait to discuss it in depth.

My Mood- I generally don’t stick to one type of book and try to read different categories and such to keep it interesting.  Sometimes I’m really craving a stand-alone simple read to enjoy and not have any commitment to a series or maybe I just read a book with a similar kind of storyline/character and I don’t want them to blend together.

Series #- Sometimes I find a series I want to read but if there are too many books already out it can be intimidating to start.  On the flip side if I find a series that the final book is about to come out or is out I can dive in knowing I won’t have to wait which can also be a huge plus!

Price- So this is more so a factor with audiobooks because being practical I can’t buy all the books I want to read because so many fit the above checks.  Sometimes I have to wait for my credit to roll around or a sale to hit but when I do...BAM it's on!

What books have I been missing out on?  Tell me what you think of my list in the comments below.  Also please link back to your Top Ten as well so I can check out your list and see what I missed!

  1. We do definitely judge a book by its cover! It can't be helped. Great list! :-)

  2. I completely agree about not having to wait for a series to come out. While I do enjoy waiting for the release of a new book, I also find that I often forget about the characters and move onto other ideas within that waiting-period.

    1. Yes! Some waiting is okay but when you have so so many open series it's hard.

  3. Seriously, I think most book lovers and bloggers are total cover judgers - I know I am. It's so hard not to do so! Great list.

    1. Yeah because if we didn't love pretty covers that wouldn't be fair to the artists who made them!

  5. Despite the "rule" not to judge a book by its cover, I totally do. :) I love a pretty as a picture cover.

Hype is a factor for me as well. It doesn't always guarantee I'll like the book, but I do pay attention to it if there's lot of hype or buzz surrounding it.

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, Eve.

  7. Yes, yes to all this! The cover, summary - and for me also the title - are super important, and they need to grab my attention. If all these three things are great, I'm definitely adding that to my tbr. :)
