Top Ten Tuesday: Unique Books

Hello everyone!  Top Ten Tuesday is just how it sounds, a topic is picked and we put our Top Ten for that in a post and share and check out everyone’s answers.  Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

The top ten today is:  Unique Books

This topic was super hard because I always find something unique in all the stories I read and that is why I love them so.  But here are a few I thought of without going too deep because I could pick and choose all day long!  In no particular order:

Every Day by David Levithan- The main character doesn't have a body but drifts between peoples bodies each day living their lives

Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley- the book takes place in the span of 24 hours.

The Scorpio Races of The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater- both series have her very unique take from a yearly race of dangerous water horses to a group of kids searching for a sleeping Welsh king in search of a favor.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher- Okay so I haven't read this one yet but I did just marathon the Netflix season and OMG

Firstlife by Gena Showalter- Your first life doesn’t really count it's just a dress rehearsal for your afterlife…what?

Uglies by Scott Westerfield- I only finished the first two books but the concept was definitely something unique to me.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor- So this book has so much happening and introduced me to chimaera.

Vicious by VE Schwab- From the POV of a villain

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas- So the whole world of the Night Court and all the different powers and people…just in awe

Cursed by Christina Bauer- Necromancers were kind of new to me

Some books I haven't read yet but seem like they will be really unique:

Wicked Like A Wildfire by Lana Popovic
Illuminae by Amy Kauffman and Jay Kristoff
Magonia by Maria Dahvana

This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp

  1. Loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone series!! And ACOMAF! I read 13 reasons why way back when, and I vaguely remember my views on it, but I bought a copy at the weekend and want to re read. I'm currently watching the tv show and I'm on episode 8 I think. But it's so powerful and I know I'm going to be a bawling mess by the end of it ...

  2. Oh yes, 13 Reasons Why. I love the old-school twist it has with the cassette tapes. It seems like everything Maggie does is unique. I think she just thinks on a higher creativity level than most. And I'd say pass on This is Where it Ends. If you're in the mood for that kind of book The Hate List is wayyyyy better.

    1. I know it would take me forever just to find something to play them on. Like I have my old CD walkman still but nothing that plays tapes. I'll keep that in mind about the hate list. And yes Maggie is...amazing!

  3. I'm on episode 7 of 13 Reasons Why and really enjoying it but I think there's some big twist coming soon. I just ran across the fact that the MC has lied about a few things on the tapes - or at last one in particular. I also really want to know Clay's role in everything.

It's funny though - your list hit on one book my younger daughter loved - Every Day - and a series my older daughter loved - The Raven Cycles. Awesome list!

  7. I can't wait to read Thirteen Reason Why. It's been sitting on my shelves for years and the release of the series has definitely motivated me to pick it up as soon as I can! Graffiti Moon is also one of my favorites! Probably one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read. I couldn't really get into Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the Scorpio Races but, they have very unique plots! Great list!
