Shifters & Glyphs (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #2)

                Hello happy readers!  Well it has been a crazy weekend to be sure.  Three days of all day adopt-a-thon action which will leave you surprisingly sore each day and a double birthday party for my bestie ad her smallest mini-me.  That said while I sit in my comfy robe and sit on ice I am finally able to type and post my review of a recent release for you!  That book in question is Shifter and Glyphs (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #2) by Christina Bauer.  I previously reviewed the first book Wolves and Roses and the following novella Moonlight and Midtown which I highly recommend as this is a series I really enjoy and look forward to continuing on in but even more the author is one of my auto-buy authors!

                Bry is about to start school, real school for the first time and it's all she has dreamed of for so long, but the dreams she has had her whole life of pyramids and papyri have turned much darker.  It should be enough to worry about with three different types of magic to work on and an inner wolf who wants to chomp on a 1/3 of your classmates but that's not enough pressure for Bry.  As the equinox approaches and those she love most seem to be in danger Bry must step away from her dream of school life and solve the mystery of her life and the attraction to the pyramids or face untold consequences for herself and the world.

                So Bry has her un-shredable outfit to help ease her modesty should she have to shift and her best friend, her mate, and her newest friend all with her in this endeavor that is school.  And the search for the fountain of course.  Things should go well.  But Knox has been looking rather unwell as of late and the nightmares Bry has and can't remember are only making things worse.  The sense of time running out and the search is kicked up into high gear.  Everyone's magic is acting a bit wonky as the equinox approaches.

                Things move quickly as we have fights of will, power, and kick butt action.  Still the characters are why we really care as much as we do.  I love Bry for sure but I think I love the best friend dynamic between Bry and Elle above most else.  They are friendship goals and remind me of some of the stuff my bestie and I would say and/or do though less magically, like make fun of people in horror movies doing the stupidest things….yep that's us.  Then you have Knox because you can't forget the sexy werewolf mate!  Speaking of mate the inner conversations Bry has with her wolf had me rolling most of the time.  Like she has a literally voice in her head trying to convince her to do things, like chowing down on your mates ex, when they pop up.  Knox and Bry the story is sweet and amazing as always, he could save me anytime!  And Alec who is basically Knox's Elle.  Their brotherly dynamic is on point and adorable.  Plus no matter how hard they try to play as friends Elle and Alec are super cute and impossible not to ship. 

                We dig deeper as we approach the conclusion to the fountain search.  Things that are translated always have multiple meanings as anyone well knows but in this care old papyri is no exception.  Mysteries are solved, truths revealed, and life templates are put to the test.  I was so excited to go on this ride for the search for the fountain and the hope to fix magic.  And maybe get a little bit of normal high school time if you're lucky!  So I can't say much else without spoiling things and that will not do.  The book flies by so pick it up and give it a go!

The Dark Lands (Angelbound Origins #5)

                Hello happy readers!  So today I have for you a new release from the end of September and a new addition to a favorite series of mine, The Dark Lands (Angelbound Origins #5) by Christina Bauer.   So this series is a bit out of order as I’ve already read some into the spin-off series as well as book 7 in the series, but that is just because the author is non-linear and wrote the original series with some time jumps between them and is now writing from those time jumps and all the adventures and shenanigans we missed out on.  I like to think this is because fans like myself wanted more, and that’s what I’m going to tell myself.  Anywho Goodreads makes things so easy for knowing the proper order as of now and here are my reviews leading up to this title: Duty Bound, Angelbound, Scala, Acca, & Thrax.

Rating:  5 Stars

                Myla’s life has changed for sure now a wife, mother, Great Scala, and Queen of the Thrax, she has her hands full.  Things seem to be going pretty well…until it hits the fan like always.  Her honorary brother Walker is being more secretive than usual and when he disappears into the Dark Lands leaving her a countdown and a promise to uphold they have another mission to complete, stopping Lucifer from escaping and all, and save not only Walker but all of the after realms.  So you know…no big deal.

                So in this we have another adventure with our favorite quasi, Myla.  She and Lincoln are always finding some trouble they have to stop.  They are trouble magnets.  This time it is Lucifer and someone trying to break him free to reign down all sorts of evil and honorary brother Walker’s disappearance is connected.  Meaning if they weren’t involved to begin with they are now for Walker.  I love these stories.  They are such fast paced books they fly on by.  You have a huge mystery and suspense and tons of action carrying you along.  Still no matter the seriousness of the matter Myla never loses her trademark sarcasm and I love her for it. 

                I will always read these books for more Myla and Lincoln.  They are relationship goals.  Plus added bonus baby Maxon time was just precious.  Seriously this kid is totally adorable and how he brings complete hard core kick butt characters to a panic is epic.  This is another fun adventure as we delve deeper into the world and make new discovers about the past.  I enjoyed getting to see more of how things used to be as well as learning about this whole new area and distant/reclusive House full of new characters you can love. 

               

                All in all this was a great addition to the world and I loved seeing Myla and Lincoln fight so hard for Walker.  He has done a lot for them over the years/series and they love him for sure and to see them go to bat for him like he always has for them was just epic.  This is a beautiful world I always look forward to getting lost in, magma demons and all if Myla and Lincoln are there too!

Why I’m Waiting:

                I have really enjoyed this series thus far from book one to the novella between then and now.  I am very interested in all of the characters, their stories, and the mystery of these pyramids.  Plus auto-buy author!

Cradled (Beholder #4.5)

                Hello happy readers.  I hope you are having a good Monday.  My weekend was not as productive as I would have hoped but the new season of Orange is the New Black dropped Friday so could I have done anything other than marathon it?   I think not.  That said I am happy to have a quick review of an epilogue novella.  Yes the Beholder series by Christina Bauer that I have enjoyed comes out with a quick novella, Cradled (Beholder #4.5).  It comes out tomorrow and I am excited to have gotten a chance to read it early before my pre-order as I was provided an ARC in exchange for my honest review.  I reviewed the previous Beholder books here:  Cursed, Concealed, Cherished, and Crowned.

Rating:  5 Stars

                Elea and Rowan have been through a lot and still have lots more to do in complete unity between their peoples.  But given the family drama on both sides children were something they were going to forgo…..But sometimes fate has other options.

                So I went in not knowing much.  I hadn't even read the summary just that it was more Elea and Rowan and that was good enough for me.  The title kind of gave me some hint but yeah that was it.  I thought it'd be a quick little tale dealing with pregnancy or something but what I got was so much more.  There is an attack, kidnapping, crossovers, battle, redemption, and so much jam packed into this novella!  Seriously there is so much happening I loved it.  There was even a cross over with some other characters I just adore so having them all in one spot kind of made my day!

                There is a little of everything and again all of her books fly by for me but this was a novella that easily felt like a full on book with such an interesting story.  I highly recommend it to fans of the series it's a sweet treat!

                Long story short, Myla and Lincoln have just two days to rescue their good friend and stop Lucifer from taking over the after-realms.  Even for them, this may be a too-tall order, especially when Myla’s own father allows his past friendship with Lucifer to threaten Walker’s future.

Why I’m Waiting:

                One of my favorite authors and series.  They are all super fun fast reads that really draw you in and keep you engaged until the very end.  Also I love Walker so I need to know what is going on with him!

Moonlight and Midtown (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1.5)

                Hello happy readers!  So today I have a quick review for you of a novella that falls between the first book I reviewed last year and the sequel set to come out later in 2018 and my Monthly Wrap-Up to follow.  Lots happening.  I had some type of bug at the start of the week and it got me way off track but again just going to work hard to get back on top of things.  That said lots of listening and reading happening and right now my thoughts on Moonlight and Midtown (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1.5) by Christina Bauer.  I previously reviewed book one in this new series Wolves and Roses and there will be spoilers for it to follow as that is how series work!

Rating:  5 Stars

                This is a quick novella read that follows the events of Wolves and Roses and how things were left off.  Bryar Rose is ready to enjoy her new life away from her evil aunties and her curse.  She has a new man, who is literally her dream guy, and about to attend a regular school with her bestie.  Sounds great.  Accept her wolf side takes some effort to get used to and it has ruined her wardrobe.  Oh and there are some sketchy things happening in the city and with magic as a whole.  Her life is far from boring.

                I liked the little insight to follow up with these characters.  Bryar, Knox, Elle, and Alec are great fun.  I liked that Bry wasn’t instantly okay with and good at all this power that she uncovered.  She has to learn to handle it and that also means ruining some clothing along the way.  But hey perfect reason for a shopping trip with the bestie.  We get to see some more bonding with Bry and Knox which is always fun because Knox is pretty awesome with her and he tough exterior and soft center only for her.  This really was a novella so not a ton to say just that it gives some depth to the characters in the aftermath both fun and not so fun moments as well as building up more of the world and the issues they face.  I can’t wait for the next full book set to come out later this year, Shifters and Glyphs.

Dimension Drift (Dimension Drift Worlds #1)

                Hey happy readers!  Sorry for going MIA on you.  The downside to dispatch and weird hours is swap over.  This week I have went from the last of night shift to day shift and the transition has been a bit of an adjustment.  I've been doing good on the sleep side of things but day shift means more people/interruptions and less reading time.  Just means I have to get back on track with my reading / typing outside of work which like the shift just takes a bit of adjusting.  That said this is the first of two delayed reviews from last week for you today.  Both I was lucky enough to score via NetGalley and came out on 4/24 so you can grab them now!  This first is a prequel in a new series, Dimension Drift (Dimension Drift Worlds #1) by Christina Bauer.

                So Dimensional Drift is a prequel to a new series by an auto-buy author of mine Christina Bauer.  I was excited to dive into this new world and see how things start off.  A very dystopian reality that has very strict laws and school is mostly a way to teach you how awesome the government is and have you working for free.  The sick or unproductive are removed and science is forbidden unless it is under strict control.  Basically being your own person is not an options.  Still we get to know Meimi and her world and how she survives day to day until everything goes out the window and a science crime leads to a stranger from another dimension and all sorts of trouble for her. 

                This is a seriously fast read but it got me curious about the world, which sounds horrible and no place I'd want to be in, and in Meimi.  The science behind it all with the different worlds and dimensions have such promise.  There is a bit of romance forming and I'm curious to know more about our gentleman.  There are so many questions from the Scythe, her sister, this world drifts, and more.  I look forward to learning more about them and diving into this new series full of science, action and adventure, and more.

Duty Bound (Angelbound Origins # 0.5)

                Hello happy readers!  So a new release this week that I snagged a copy of early Duty Bound (Angelbound Origins # 0.5) by Christina Bauer from NetGalley is out as of this week!  So this is a prequel novella so it is an extra fast read.  Seriously I sat and read it in one sitting as soon as I downloaded it.  I've loved everything in this world and was happy to go back to the beginning.  I think it can be enjoyed as a first book (as it is story wise) or as an added bit of backstory for fans of the series as is.

                So as many of you know I love the Angelbound series by Christina Bauer.  Both the Origins  and Offspring books.  I adore this world that has been created and I love the characters in them and how fast they read.  So when I found out there was going to be a prequel novella from Lincoln’s POV I was on board.  First more books!  Second…Lincoln’s POV!!!   So this is what it is, the story of from Lincoln from his time in Purgatory prior to the official meeting with Myla.

                This is a fast read.  Not only is it novella length but it also follows the suit of all the other books in the series keeping pace with action and intrigue.  I loved getting to see things from inside Lincolns head.  He had a very specific way of seeing things and I can only imagine how that changed even further as he opened himself up to more.  His views on Purgatory and marriage in general caught me off guard.  The idea of him not wanting to marry for love and never expecting to find love blew me away knowing the love and relationship he ends up with.  I totally get it though as it plays out and I really enjoyed seeing this piece of him.  Plus his first reaction to Myla, before ever meeting her was priceless.  I also loved seeing his and Walker’s relationship having heard of it before but never seeing them one on one.

                So this was fast and quick but totally worth the read.  I highly recommend it to any Angelbound fan!  It’s a great insight into our favorite Thrax prince!

                I love this author.  Auto-buy right there alone.  But I really enjoyed book one of the series and look forward to seeing where these characters go.

Crowned (Beholder #4)

                Hello happy readers!  Life around the holidays has been kind of crazy, go figure.  That said I was able to curl up and cuddle with my cat and finish a new release that has been on my anticipated release list for some time.  It is the final book in the Beholder series by Christina Bauer, Crowned.  I previously reviewed all of the books: Cursed, Concealed, and  Cherished

                So when we left off Elea and Rowan are together with a goal to save the world by preventing Viktor’s invasion.  That means finding the Sword of Theodora, the only weapon that will kill Viktor without killing herself.  Though on the eve of battle Elea begins to realize that her enemies may be far more powerful than him, but the Sire and the Lady as well.  With the battle coming at her on all sides she must fight and with her mate and others she loves she is ready to give it her all.

                This is what it has all been building towards.  We know the gateways need power and everyone seems to think that means Elea.  Petra sure is determined that she will be the one to die for the recharging and is willing to do anything to convince her of this.  So what do you do when you have many questions and a limited amount of time to figure things out?  You use what you got.  In this case you ask the trickster gods for help during a celebration and hope they grant your boon.  Still even if they do, they are tricksters and they don’t do anything for free.

                I was nervous going in worried how things would end for my Elea and Rowan because something always seems to come between them and their happy ending.  I also on principle never trust deals made as there are always loopholes.  So dealing with tricksters I knew something would go wrong and I was right.  I was even so proud of her for her attention to detail but sigh the tricksters are good at tricks.  Their tricks though about broke my heart many times over.  As I read I just couldn’t believe it and kept reading until I got to the next page.

                Things happen real fast and you never lose the momentum.  It is a constant rollercoaster of action and suspense as you unravel the secrets and mysteries surrounding this comment and the gates.  Nothing is easy and hard decisions are plentiful.  Everyone has really come a long way in the series and I am sad to see it end.  We got to meet new characters, learn about a whole new people and of course work to save the world.  Crowned worked to resolve many open storylines as well as giving up more to feast on.  I was very happy with the end of this book and this series, if only that I was sad to see the end.  I also wish there was a bit more to the end as I am sure some of the after effects would have been interesting to watch.  That said I have recently seen there is going to be an epilogue novella so yay!  That said even with the upcoming epilogue these four books are very satisfying and I would highly recommend them for a marathon they are set up perfectly for that!

Why I’m Waiting:

                I have enjoyed this series since book one and this is an auto-buy author so not much more is needed here.  I'm also completely invested in Elea's journey and seeing Viktor taken down!

Wolves & Roses (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1)

                Hello happy readers!  I hope you all had a fantastic weekend yet again.  For me I worked but I also had lots of time to read and drink some tea (I got a simple electric kettle for me and my co-worker to use) which I call a win.  Sinuses are starting to act up but I'm hopeful that will pass.  However, today what I'm thrilled to talk about is a new book that came out last week on Halloween, Wolves and Roses (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1) by Christina Bauer.  I had previously gave a quick review on a sampler I got a few months back and then was lucky enough to get an ARC thanks to NetGalley and Monster House Books.  As the book came out last week my pre-ordered copy has also arrived so yay!  This is book one in a new series by an author I already adore.

                Wolves and Roses is a fairy-tale retelling with a modern and unique twist.  Bryar Rose is almost eighteen and one of the Magicorum-part of three magical races of shifters, fairies, or witches and they follow a fairy tale life template.  Bryar's is Sleeping Beauty.  She isn't too fond of this and has no desire for it.  Some parts make sense but others couldn't be further from the truth.  Like the part where she can't stand her so call Prince Philpot but does have dreams of a hottie and a compulsion with finding ancient papyri from Egypt.  So  not the typical Sleeping Beauty she is supposed to be.  So when she meets the literal man of her dreams the powerful werewolf Knox her already interesting life takes an unexpected turn.

                I already adore this author and her other series but this one was something new and exciting.  I love how quickly her books fly by.  It's the style of writing that just go straight forward no holds barred where you are captivated in every second and don't realize where the last few hours went.  There is a beautiful middle between kick butt female characters, action, mystery, magic, romance, and drama!  It's a magical little bubble full of all the feelings you want in a story.  I was instantly intrigued with Bry and her life.  Anytime she got too excited or wound up she'd start to have an "episode" and could freeze like her SB counterpart if she didn't take her meds.  Kind of sucks.  But as we go on there is much more to the story and you just feel for her.  Who wouldn't want to live their own life and not have it pre-arranged for her?  Then her bestie Elle, whom I adore, and her constant cons were just amazing.  Had some White Collar and Leverage feels come up, what can I say I love a good con story. 

                And of course we have Knox, the second POV in the story.  I dig his story as well.  A reluctant leader type.  Powerful and flawed.  Broading and sexy.  He has his reasons to brood don't get me wrong and he makes some mishaps along the way but I loved his POVs and hearing him have internal debates with his wolf they had me cracking up.  His friendship with Alec is grounding.  It's the male version of Bry and Elle.  I love that while they do spend time together they still have their special bond between original friends.  That is important.  I love how the friendship is strong and plays an important part and not just to talk about boys (or girls for the guys) though there is some of that.

                As for the story itself there is a lot going on.  Not only did we get to know and love all of these characters as well as despise some others.  We have a larger hunt for a magical fountain going on and tons of little side plots afoot including Bry finding herself.  I can't say much more there because I don't want to give away any of the fun but with the Denarii and all the different types of magic in the world and how they interact with the modern world I just love it and can't wait to see more.  I enjoyed this story and am looking forward to Spring of 2018 for the next book Moonlight and Midtown so I can see what happens next.  I highly recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of retellings, magic, or just an intense fast paced story!

Thrax (Angelbound Origins #4)

                Hello happy readers!  So I am thrilled to be back in the swing of things.  Today I'm super excited to be sharing my thoughts and feelings on the newest book in a series I just adore, Thrax (Angelbound Origins  #4) by Christina Bauer.  I have reviewed the previous books in the series Angelbound, Scala, and Acca.  There are more books in the series as a whole as the series took a time jump but now we are getting all the fun adventures we hear mention of in the Angelbound Offspring series.  Thrax releases tomorrow 9/26/17 but I was lucky enough to get my hands on an ARC (thank you NetGalley & Monster House Books) since my pre-order won't be here til tomorrow!  Even though there are future books I will only be discussing spoilery type materially as it pertains to the first three books in the series numerically as this takes place just after Acca.

Rating:  5 Lighting Bolts

                We left off with our dynamic duo getting hitched!  Well a bit more than that really since Myla's little igni have decided to make sure she has a scala heir sooner rather than later.  Newly married, newly pregnant, and new to the whole ruler thing Myla is taking on a whole new set of responsibilities which isn't easy given she's been having some weird dreams and scala related issues.  As their honeymoon comes to a close, time to get back to responsibilities of life, Lincoln disappears and Myla wakes up with someone who looks like her husband but she can tell is not.  Problem is not everyone else can pick up on 'Evil Lincoln' as she is.  Oh and he may have already planted that the pregnancy has made her crazy.  Yep that doesn't go over well with Myla.  Myla is always ready for a fight, and fighting to find her real Angelbound love is priority number one.  Only with her pregnancy she has to fight smart, less punching more thinking.  Enlisting the help of people she knows she can trust she must get to the bottom of what is happening before its too late.

                I have enjoyed all of the books in this series.  This series and author are auto-buy for me and as soon as pre-order links are available I always get my copy secured.  The world as a whole is vast and ever changing full of so many amazing stories and inspiration to draw from.  Each book is slam packed full of action, even if Myla is not jumping in fists first, Thrax doesn't lose any of the fast paced action.  The pacing keeps up as there is a mystery to solve.  Why would someone replace Lincoln?  But more important where is he?  I have really enjoyed watching Myla grow and change as the series grows and she adapts to each change in her life but still maintains who she is at her core.  She may be the Great Scala, a wife, queen, and mother to be but she is also part lust and wrath demon with a wicked sense of humor and a kick butt attitude. 

                I adore my Myla and Lincoln.  I can't say how much I adore this couple and how well they mesh for me.  I don't just adore him as a book boyfriend but I love them together.  The way they balance one another out just makes them for me and I could never grow tired of them.  With that in mind, with Lincoln being missing (the real deal one anyways) Myla works with her best friend Cissy.  I have enjoyed this friendship since book one and appreciate that is has come back into focus.  I love seeing more of Cissy and Myla adventures since they too balance one another out in a different kind of way.  We also got another character to 'meet' as it were that just had me saying 'awe' or laughing constantly. 

                This book flew by in pretty much one sitting because I couldn’t put it down.  That is one of my favorite parts of these books they have so much happening but it happens in a way that you just sail on through from sweet moments, heart racing, shock and awe, and surprises all the time.  There is always something new to learn and see. Thrax is a rollercoaster ready to take you on a fast thrilling ride you will enjoy and want to go on again!  Every book is.  I'm so excited for book five The Dark Lands but more than that a prequel Duty Bound  from Lincolns POV which comes out first.  So many stories I can't get enough! Plus come on these covers!  

                If it's not clear by my enthusiasm I highly recommend this series to EVERYONE!  Seriously read it so we can discuss because I have far too few people to gush about this with!  

~Waiting on Wednesday~ Wolves & Roses

                But that plan gets turned upside down when Bryar Rose meets Knox, the bad boy who’s literally from her dreams.  Knox is a powerful werewolf, and his presence in her life changes everything, and not just because he makes her knees turn into Jell-O.  If Bryar can’t figure out who—or what—she really is, it might cost both her and Knox their lives…as well as jeopardize the very nature of magic itself.

Why I’m Waiting:

                I love this author.  Obviously.  Auto-buy aside I like the idea of the book with the fairy tale template being turned around on its head.  Should be fun!  Plus the three chapter sampler I read and reviewed has me super pumped for this one!

Sampler Review: Wolves and Roses

                Hello happy readers!  Looks like the weekend is upon us.  Sadly it’s a working weekend for myself but provided my sinuses calm down some next week should be better.  Since I am a bit behind and foggy headed the timing for this short review is perfect.  One of the authors I adore, Christina Bauer who writes the Angelbound and Beholder series that I am in love with has a new book/series coming out towards the end of this year, Wolves and Roses (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1).  So when a sampler was available I was all on board to get a taste. 

Rating:  EXCITED!!!

Thoughts thus far:

                So this was only a short, three chapters, sampler so I don’t have a ton to go on but those chapters really got me excited.  Of course I was ready to read it given the summary and the author but seeing Bryar, in only that short bit I really like her.  I’m curious about the growling Knox character and I love the friendship between Bryar and Elle that has been shown thus far.  I am intrigued about the Magicorum and these mysterious disappearances, dreams and the like.  I can’t wait to get my hands on the full and finished copy but for now I can say this sampler really has me anticipating the book even more.  Plus come on fairytale retellings/re-imaginings are always fun and exciting.  Taking characters/stories/templates we know and turning them all around and remolding them is fascinating but this whole take on the life templates, just from what I have seen might be the most creative way yet! 

                Basically I need it to be out now but sadly I have to wait until October.
